Odyssey VR is the only dedicated VR venue in the county. We built it around one idea: VR is best when you play it together, on your feet, in the same world as your friends.
Built for playing together
We opened to give the region a real VR home, not a single headset in the corner of an arcade. A proper free-roam arena, eight escape rooms and a team that makes it easy for anyone to jump in.
Families, friends, school groups and work teams all play here. The kit is wireless, the briefing takes a minute, and the rest is up to you.
Meet Garry
Garry Ballantyne is a Royal Navy veteran, entrepreneur and co-founder of OdysseyVR, based in Corby, Northamptonshire.
Originally from Scotland, Garry joined the Royal Navy in 2000 at the age of 18. He initially served as a Stores Accountant before retraining as a Medical Assistant, spending eight and a half years in the Service. His naval career took him around the world, including several years aboard HMS Cumberland and HMS Bulwark, before deploying to Afghanistan in 2006 with 3 Commando Brigade Royal Marines on Operation Herrick 5 and a short stint attached to UK Special Forces as med cover with the Special Boat Service.
After leaving the Royal Navy in 2008, Garry eventually moved into the technology and financial services sector. He worked in IT and consultancy roles supporting major organisations including IBM, Santander and UBS, developing a strong interest in technology, problem-solving and emerging digital experiences.
That interest in technology ultimately led Garry into virtual reality. After becoming self-employed in 2020, he went on to establish OdysseyVR with his wife, Lynnette. In September 2023, they opened OdysseyVR's free-roam virtual reality centre in Corby, turning what began as an interest in VR into a growing family business.
Family remains a huge part of Garry's life. He and Lynnette have two children, Aimee and William, and despite the demands of running a business, he remains passionate about making time for the people and experiences that matter to him.
Away from work, one of Garry's biggest passions is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He began training in 2021 and was awarded his blue belt in December 2023. He enjoys the physical challenge of the sport, but equally values the discipline, problem-solving and continual learning that come with it.
Garry's journey has taken him from Scotland to the Royal Navy, from Afghanistan to the world of IT, and eventually into entrepreneurship and virtual reality. Those experiences have shaped his approach to both life and business: work hard, keep learning, look after the people around you, and don't be afraid to try something different.
